REVIEW: Armathwaite Hall

by Olivia Cox May 20

Last weekend, I bid farewell to grey, drizzly London and headed north to the infamous beauty of the Lake District. I say infamous. Mainly because I’ve never actually been there myself. Which made even the five-and-a-half hour road trip (yes, really) pretty exciting.

Arriving at the ‘Hall felt like we’d been transported to the set of Gosford Park or Downtown: think imposing, castle-like house, with acres of greenery stretching down to a private shore on Lake Bassenthwaite. Plus obligatory bunnies hoping around every which way. Natsch.

This was our little slice of the house. Actually, that’s a lie: there was nothing little about it. I could have quite happily catr-wheeled through the middle, had the desire struck (it didn’t. Honest), without risk of collision.

And the bath tub was just crying out for an indulgent soak. Especially since it was armed with a flat screen TV just above your feet..

So, bed bounced on and bath tried, we ventured into the great outdoors for a stroll round the lake..

..a visit to the local wildlife centre

He followed my finger. Absolutely hilarious

What a dude!

…and a spot of croquet. Which I won – hurrah!!

Naturally that was all a little exhausting so we retired to the spa. And, quite specifically, to the outdoor hot tub.

It wasn’t all lounging about though – we got down to some serious eating from time to time. First night we were in the hotel restaurant. Yum.

Then we tried out the brasserie for lunch the following day, which was equally as awesome.

It was such a relaxing weekend, and I returned to London feeling all holier-than-thou for having been in the great outdoors for such a long time.
